Intel made history by launching a groundbreaking drone light show for the 2018 Winter Olympics. The show featured stunning, volumetric formations that included a dove, snowboarder grabbing air, the PyeongChang mascot Soohorang, and the iconic Olympic Rings. The spectacle was a feast for the eyes and captured the hearts of millions around the world.
As brand integrations are not permitted into the games by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), our team was tasked with developing a campaign that would ensure Intel received the recognition it deserved for every performance. We produced a variety of films, photography, social media posts, press kits, and interviews, to successfully position Intel as the driving force behind the unforgettable drone light show in the opening ceremony.
Our campaign not only showcased the innovative technology behind the performance but also highlighted Intel's commitment to pushing the boundaries of what's possible in the world of technology and entertainment. Thanks to our efforts, Intel was able to come out on top and secure a place in Olympic history.
Role: Producer
This short film documents the Intel Drone Team's incredible journey to create a groundbreaking drone light show for the 2018 Winter Games. It took nine night shoots in PyeongChang, South Korea, to capture the Shooting Star drones completing test after test, culminating in a stunning display of over 1,200 drones forming the iconic Olympic Rings.
In addition to producing the short film "Team in Flight," we went above and beyond by creating a comprehensive suite of assets for every channel. From organizing PR packets to capturing product photography, we left no stone unturned in our efforts to deliver a truly immersive experience to our audience.
Our team worked tirelessly to create looped clips for Instagram, vertical videos for Snapchat, sound-off specific :15s and :30s for Facebook, and a Behind The Tech edit that delved deeper into the story behind the scenes. We also added blades to intel.com, captured stunning product photography, and even designed the Olympics drone sticker wrap itself.
And the results speak for themselves. Within just 12 hours of the Opening Ceremony, our light show had already garnered an impressive 12 billion earned media impressions. What's more, most of these impressions were driven by our content capture, rather than the official Opening Ceremony broadcast, which is a testament to the quality and impact of our work.
